Austrian Grand Prix Winners and Losers

Austrian Grand Prix Winners and Losers

The Austrian Gran Prix offered a different race from the previous ones except for the dominance of the Red Bulls. The usual contenders like Aston Martin and Mercedes had a not so good weekend. Unexpected drivers like Norris gave us a great display of what is coming with new upgrades and Nico Hulkenberg did a great job in quali but not enough to finish the race. Really miss when we had a more competitive season with Hamilton and Max.

Winners

Max Verstappen: Not much to say here. Best car in the grid and great driver. Another win for him.

Checo Perez: The Mexican driver was able to finish on third position after a unfortunate qualification and problems with the track limits. He needed a good result after all the problems he has been having lately. Let’s being honest, is not easy to be in the same team as Max and have almost everyone supporting the champion. I think this has affected Checo a lot this season.

Charles Leclerc: Ferrari had a great start but terrible strategy again when they stack their drivers I the pits. Carlos seemed to have a better pace and the team protected Charles and after the pit stops, he was left alone to represent Ferrari.

Lando Norris: McLaren came up with a great upgrade and the car was one of the best cars on the grid. After Carlos Sainz got 10 seconds in penalties due to track limits, he went up to 4th position. This car was stronger than the Mercedes and Aston Martins.

Losers

Lewis Hamilton: Mercedes had a terrible weekend and Lewis wasn’t happy and didn’t show the great driver he is at his best. He got a total of 10 seconds in penalties due to track limits. He ends up in 8th after Russell. While I am a great fan of Lewis, he needs to deal with the current situation and show his best. So far, he is showing he is the number one at Mercedes and that’s great. The car will be fixed eventually.

Carlos Sainz: The Spaniard driver have been driving very good lately, was showing a great pace in the Austrian Grand Prix, even better than his teammate Charles Leclerc, but a terrible decision from Ferrari made him lose track position and on top of that he got 10 second n penalties due to track limits. Otherwise, he would have finished in fourth position. I am suer Carlos will be thinking if Ferrari is still a good place for him to stay.

Esteban Ocon: 30 seconds lost in penalties due to track limits. The French driver was driving all over the place, he thought he would be a good fit for the Red bulls but this was not the best presentation after his comments.

It was another weekend where the fun was in the midfield. Max drives great and has a car way superior to the rest. Was a weird weekend with the track limits, it made a lot of changes in the positions and left a bad taste in the drivers affected. We will see what is coming for the Great Britan Grand Prix. Can’t wait to see the new upgrades that Mercedes will bring to the race.
